Second studio album from the Bay Area's Joanna Newsom. Ys was originally released in 2006 and features full orchestra arrangements by Van Dyke Parks on four of the five tracks. Newsom was inspired by the 1971 Roy Harper album Stormcock. This is particularly evident in the length of the songs and orchestral arrangements. Ys has received widespread critical acclaim and showed up on many year end lists in 2006. Nearly a decade since its release the album has aged well, especially for something that was so artistically ambitious.
